We want to give you the knowledge and tools to help you reach your health and fitness goals.

Meet Rebecca

Rebecca Serrano is the owner of Healthy Waves Nutrition. She is a Registered Dietitian with a diverse background in Public Health and Animal Science.

In addition to outpatient nutrition counseling, she works as a clinical dietitian in a hospital and as a research dietitian at Rutgers University. During her studies, she was inspired by how the food choices we make day in and day out affect our overall health and longevity.

In addition to nutrition, distance running has been one of her lifelong passions. As a runner, she understands how important fueling is during training and recovery to get you successfully across the finish line. She looks forward to working with you to reach your own personal nutritional goals!

Here for your nutrition needs.

Running Nutrition

Are you new to running or a seasoned runner looking to improve performance? We understand adequate nutrition will impact your performance before, during, and after race day. You’ve probably been exposed to numerous gels, electrolyte tablets, chews, powders, and bars marketed to endurance athletes. Wondering what may work best for you? Together, we can come up with nutritional goals that work best for you to get you successfully across the finish line.

Weight Management

Perhaps you have tried various diets to no avail. At Healthy Waves, we understand there is no “one diet fits all.” What may work for one person may not work for another. Taking an individualized approach, we will go through your medical history, nutritional history, and nutritional goals. Using this information, we will begin with small, sustainable lifestyle changes to help you feel your best.

Disease Management

Nutrition counseling for people who are newly diagnosed or who want to better understand how to manage their health condition. Perhaps you briefly met with a dietitian at the hospital or clinic for prediabetes, diabetes, or heart disease. Continuing with regular individualized counseling sessions can keep you on track with your goals, and manage and improve disease related symptoms. Using the most current evidenced based recommendations, we will provide the knowledge and tools help you feel your best.

Plant-Based Nutrition

Individual plant-Based nutrition counseling is geared towards the curious and to life-long omnivores, pescatarians, vegetarians, and vegans. In an omnivore centered society, it may seem difficult to ensure you are getting enough macronutrients, vitamins, and minerals on a plant-based diet. With the right planning and tools, you may find it’s not so difficult after all! Together we will explore a complete or partial plant-focused lifestyle based on your goals and needs

Frequently Asked Questions

1.What are the first steps after making an appointment?

You will receive a welcome email from our electronic health record (EHR) platform, Healthie, to create an account. Once you create your account, you will be asked to fill out a medical history form, dietary history form, and consent forms. From here, you can schedule your initial virtual appointment through the portal. If you prefer emailing for appointments, you may also email Rebecca.Serrano.Rdn@gmail.com.

2.What can I expect in my initial meeting?

At your first visit, we will first be reviewing your medical, dietary, and exercise history. Next, we will discuss your lifestyle and nutritional goals. These goals typically start with a small and realistic change based on your current lifestyle and desired outcome. I will answer any nutritional related questions you may have and provide nutrition education as desired. The initial visit typically lasts 1 hour.

3.What can I expect at follow-up appointments?

We will discuss your goal progress, achievements, and any barriers to achieving your goals. We understand life is continuously changing, and modifications to goals may be necessary. As you continue with sessions, you will develop sustainable habits that you may use throughout your health journey. We recommend weekly initial sessions. These sessions typically become more infrequent as you gain the knowledge and confidence to build sustainable healthy habits on your own. Follow-up appointments typically last 30 minutes.

4.Are sessions in person or via telehealth?

Currently, sessions are soley conducted via telehealth via a secure EHR platform called Healthie. All sessions are secure and HIPPA compliant.
